Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscope is similar to a Laparoscope. The difference is that in Laparoscope there is a hard rod while in hysteroscope there is a thin flexible tube. This flexible tube has an LED Light Source at its tip and also has a high resolution camera. The thin tube is inserted through the vagina to check the fallopian tubes. Hysteroscopy Procedure

Hysteroscopy is a non invasive procedure in the sense that no incision is given in your body. Natural opening through the vagina is used to insert the hysteroscope. You are supposed to be fasting for 6 hours for this procedure in case anesthesia is to be given. The doctor will prescribe you some medicines so that the bowel is empty. You would be lying on the table on your back and your legs are spread resting on slightly raised stand. Dr Ruchi Soumya would dilate the cervix before inserting the hysteroscope in the vagina. The hysteroscope goes inside the uterus through the cervix. The LED light source illuminates the inside of the uterus and the high resolution camera sends crystal clear images from the inside of the uterus which are seen by the doctor on TV Screen. These are highly magnified images so that the tiniest polyps or fibroids can be seen clearly. Carbondioxide gas is used to dilate the uterus to visualize it properly.
